The combination of low relative humidity levels and increasing northerly flow today will result in conditions favorable for the rapid spread of brush fires. Relative humidities will be lowest this afternoon...dropping into the 20s across the area. Winds will be light this morning... increasing this afternoon to 10 to 15 mph with 20 to 25 mph gusts. The risk will diminish by this evening as relative humidities increase and the winds begin to diminish. SCPD Crime Alert: Man Attempts to Rob Two Medford Banks

Suffolk County Police Pattern Crime Unit detectives are investigating two attempted bank robberies that occurred today in Medford.

Medford, NY - February 5th, 2014 -  Suffolk County Police Pattern Crime Unit detectives are investigating two attempted bank robberies that occurred today in Medford.
 
Chase Bank, located at 2271 Rt. 112, and Bank of America, located at 2851 Horseblock Rd., reported attempted robberies within 15 minutes of each other. In each incident a man entered the bank, approached a teller, and produced a note demanding cash.  When the tellers did not immediately comply with the demand, the suspect fled on foot.
 
The robber is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, between 30 and 35 years old with a thin build. He was wearing a tan colored jacket and a white baseball cap.
 
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
