This week’s installment of LI’s Adorable Adoptable Pets is being posted early due to one dog’s dire need for a home.

A Home Fur Now Rescue is looking for a foster home or a forever home for an affectionate and smart senior German shepherd mix named Jessie.  Jessie, who is nine years old, was brought to the Hempstead Town Shelter after her owners moved and left her behind and running alone in the streets for over a week.  Volunteers from A Home Fur Now pulled Jessie from the shelter a few days before Thanksgiving, and she was lucky to find a foster family to take her in for the holidays.

Now, due to a change in life, Jessie’s foster mother can no longer care for her, and she must be given up by Friday, March 28.  Jessie can either go to a temporary foster family, or to a forever family, but she must be taken in by Friday.

Jessie is very people-oriented and craves attention, and is always eager to learn and eager to please, so she would need to be fully involved in the family.  Like many older dogs, she is not very energetic, and her energy usually comes in a short burst before falling asleep in her bed.  This lovable shepherd mix enjoys being pet, playing with tennis balls, going for car rides, and having a companion to go for walks with.  Jessie is great with children, as she is quick to obey commands, and she is also intelligent, friendly, and very alert.

Jessie is not a fan of cats, and though she always tolerates other dogs, she prefers to spend her time with people.

Jessie is spayed, house-trained, micro-chipped, and up-to-date with all of her routine shots.

A Home Fur Now is a not-for-profit rescue that relies solely on foster homes to care for their animals.  Their mission is to save the strays, throwaways, and shelter animals and to improve their lives through medical care, spaying and neutering, and finding families that would be compatible with these pets.
