A snowy day in Northport. Photo by Brian Re.

The new year did not even go a full week before its first snow day. Though most schools and districts that did give students a reprieve after the snowstorm had only a delayed opening, there were a couple that simply closed, giving their students a full day off. The most common approach for the day was to have a two-hour delayed opening, giving students some time to sleep in while roadways were cleared of a relatively light snow for safe passage.
