The Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA) is a unique law that protects injured railroad workers. Contrary to the workers' compensation statutes, FELA is a fault-based law that requires employers to prove that their negligence played a role in the injury or illness.

FELA covers cumulative trauma injuries that aren't always caused by a
