India exported onions valued at $198 million in the April-June duration of FY21 and $440 million with 2019-20. The country had exported around 10 lakh tonne in 2019-20. Bangladesh, Malaysia, the UAE as well as Sri Lanka are the leading importers of Indian onions. The ban on onion export, imposed on September 14, was lifted on January 1.
