Baby chicks require “proper sustenance, a healthy, warm and safe environment,” according to Det. Bob Sowers of the Nassau County SPCA. So who would be so cruel to abandon 28 baby chicks outside the Petland Discount store on Fulton Avenue in Hempstead on Friday?

The Nassau County SPCA is seeking to find out who is responsible for this act and is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the abandonment.

The baby chicks were left in a taped-up box outside the store in the afternoon.

They are currently being cared for at a veterinarian’s office in Valley Stream, but the chicks will need a permanent home.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Nassau County SPCA at (516) THE-SPCA. Calls are kept confidential.
