TandyWear, a women’s fashion boutique in Commack will be donating a portion of all sales from the weekend of December 11-13 to the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying (LICAB), Long Island’s only non-profit organization dedicated solely to anti-bullying.

Recently, TandyWear owner, Tandy Jeckel, announced that she expanded her store to include younger girl’s clothing in her new venture called TandyGirl. The new boutique will reside within her current location, which she recently expanded.

LICAB helps to create bully free communities across Long Island through education, increased awareness and therapeutic outlets, offering a variety of programs and services such as school assistance programs, care packages, youth leadership programs and subsidized therapy. Anti-bullying materials will also be available in store year-round at TandyGirl.

The Long Island Coalition Against Bullying says on its website that 68% of students on Long Island say they observe or experience bullying in middle school. Almost 90% of students say they have observed verbal bullying in their school and  65% of students say they or someone they know have been bullied online.

Jeckel said that she wanted to support the anti-bullying cause because it is one that is personal to her.

“Growing up, my children were bullied in school, I firmly believe in the mission behind LICAB and the resources they provide and hope we can help even one child who may be suffering,” Jeckel said. “We are proud to support LICAB and the assistance they provide to the children in our communities.”
