Through an omnibus grant administered by the Suffolk County Office of Economic Development, Suffolk County Legislators Rob Trotta and Leslie Kennedy secured funding for the Greater Smithtown Chamber of Commerce to have a temporary ice rink installed at the Fresh Market/LA Fitness Shopping Center’s parking lot on Main Street in Smithtown for an afternoon of family fun.

In addition to half hour skating times, the Smithtown High School Choir performed, there were food trucks, a DJ, and Santa came to visit and take photos with children and adults, courtesy of the Smithtown Fire Department.

The goal of the event was to bring people into Smithtown to shop, dine and have an afternoon of fun in downtown Smithtown, and help improve the economy of the downtown area. “I think this is a unique way of using the funds and everyone appeared to be having a great time. It was so nice to see families enjoyingthe day outside,” said Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta.
