Lego fans celebrate. A new permanent store opened in the Smith Haven Mall this October.

And just in time for holiday shopping.

The new store is the only one located in Suffolk County and one of two on all of Long Island. The other Lego Store is in the Roosevelt Field Mall.

With the death of big box toy stores, shopping for Legos in places where you can view and see a large variety of options in real life is becoming more difficult. As with many new retail outlets, the Lego Stores offers more for the average consumer than a place to buy their favorite brand. That we can do online from the comfort of our own living room.

What sets these retail endeavors apart is the experience. First there is the immersion in all things Lego at the store, surrounded by the product in all its incarnations. Then there are special events like a Minifig swap held at the Roosevelt Field location this summer.

Last year Lego opened a pop-up shop as a test in the Smith Haven Mall. That led to the new permanent location between the Apple Store and the Disney Store in what the Smith Haven Mall calls its Lifestyle Wing. That is the wing of the mall that leads out to the courtyard with The Cheesecake Factory and Barnes & Noble Books.

On November 9th and 10th the store will host its grand opening featuring giveaways and a master builder who will be constructing a sculpture out of Legos.
