Mt. Sinai, NY - October 29, 2015 - After listening to a number of concerns from local residents and witnessing major car accidents, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker is seeking to improve traffic safety along our major roadways in Suffolk County. By working with the New York State Department of Transportation, the Suffolk County Legislature and local community activists, Legislator Anker is identifying problems areas on busy roads and in school traffic zones.

In March 2015, Legislator Anker established a School Traffic Safety Commission, unanimously approved by the Suffolk County Legislature, to identify traffic safety concerns near schools by working with school districts and the Suffolk County Police.

“Traffic safety is one of my top priorities. With the increase in development our roads have become more congested, so we must address the need for increased traffic safety measures,” said Legislator Anker. “The commission and input from our residents will provide guidance towards making our community safer.”

Legislator Anker is now working to identify problem areas along main roads, such as Route 25 (Middle Country Road) and Route 25A. She is currently a member of the Middle Country Road Task Force, which is identifying and addressing safety issues on the state road. If you have a traffic safety concern, please contact the office of Legislator Anker at (631) 854-1600.
