Suffolk County, NY - October 9, 2013 - County Executive Steve Bellone and Commissioner James Tomarken today announced the expansion of the county’s national award-winning online food managers’ course. The course, whose English version went live in June 2009, is now being offered in both Spanish and Chinese, making Suffolk one of only two government agencies in New York State to offer online food safety training in multiple languages.* All versions of the course are now available to food establishment operators, managers and employees as well as the general public.

“The availability of the course in multiple languages enhances the county’s food safety education efforts and allows us to reach a greater number of participants,” said County Executive Steve Bellone.

“Expanding the health department’s online food managers’ course is in keeping with our objective to promote public health by preventing foodborne illness,” said Dr. Tomarken.

Students may register for the course at http://apps.suffolkcountyny.gov/health/FoodOnlineCourse/.

Registrants have the option to pay online by Visa or Master Card, either when registering for a mood managers’ course, or at any time afterwards.

Suffolk food establishments are required to have an employee with a valid Food Manager’s certificate on site during all hours of operation. For further information on Suffolk County’s food managers’ course and pa
