Local artists in the Town of Babylon are getting support from an initiative announced this July between the Babylon Citizen Council on the Arts (BACCA) and Babylon IDA. The idea is to support local artists and downtown locations in the wake of COVID-19 to produce public projects like murals, sculptures, a concert and more. A $100,000 endowment to fund the initiative was secured by an arm of the IDA.

The first project was recently completed in Wyandanch, a student-made mural unveiled at the end of August.

The mural, according to a statement released by the Town of Bablyon, was completed by Wyandanch High School students under the guidance of local artist Marie E. Saint-Cyr. Students Dinah Berger, Naomi Patrick, David Smith, D’zyr Squires, Princess Aaron, Poetry King and Chastity Anderson painted a mural with a “self-care” theme on the back of the HRH Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center on Long Island Avenue.
