FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING The Flash Flood Watch continues for * Portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New York, including the following areas, in southern Connecticut, Northern Middlesex, Northern New Haven, Northern New London, Southern Middlesex, Southern New Haven, and Southern New London. In southeast New York, Northeastern Suffolk, Northwestern Suffolk, Southeastern Suffolk, and Southwestern Suffolk. * From late tonight through Saturday evening * A slow moving frontal system will approach the region early Saturday. Heavy rain will become likely early Saturday and last through Saturday afternoon. Total rainfall amounts will be around 1 inch with locally higher amounts possible. Excessive runoff will be possible which would lead to flooding of urban and poor drainage areas. In addition, smaller rivers and streams could overflow their banks.

Nassau County, NY - August 7th, 2013 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano invites you to a weekend of fun activities that the whole family can enjoy! The Great Race on the Sea, presented by Great South Bay Racing, Inc. will be held Friday, August 23rd through Sunday, August 25th. Long Islanders can make this weekend part of your year-end summer staycation. Visitors from the tri-state area are expected to boost attendance at local beaches, restaurants and stores.   • Friday, August23rd:Seabreeze Park, Nautical Mile, Freeport: Race Boats on display from 4pm- 10pm
  • Saturday, August 24th: Long Beach Race boats on display from 4pm- 10pm Kennedy Plaza, Long Beach Entertainment, Vendors, Crafts & More!
  • Sunday, August 25: First race begins at noon! Second race begins at approximately 2pm. All races can be viewed anywhere along the race route shore from Nickerson Beach to National Boulevard, Long Beach.
  • Awards Ceremony: Trophies and awards will be presented Sunday at 6pm: Nickerson Beach Park, Nickerson West Building.

Please note that it is Piping Plover Season. Please be aware when walking to the beach. Stay on pavements and walkways when possible to avoid damaging nesting and/or foraging sites. Please stay off the dunes.
