Man Killed in West Babylon House Fire, Suffolk Officials Report

SCPD are investigating a fatal fire that occurred in West Babylon.

West Babylon, NY - July 24, 2018 - Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a fatal fire that occurred at a West Babylon home on Sunday, July 22, 2018.  
 
First Precinct officers responded to a residence on 15th St. at approximately 5:50 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a fire at the location. Four residents, two men, one woman and her 8-year-old son, were in the home at the time of the fire.
 
James Vella, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other adult male resident was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and smoke inhalation. A First Precinct police officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The woman and her son were not injured.
