Weather Alert

LIGHT SNOW AND SPOTTY LIGHT FREEZING RAIN POSSIBLE THIS EVENING As temperatures slowly rise this evening, light snow should quickly change over to rain across Long Island, New York City and the suburbs just north and west, and across coastal and southeastern Connecticut, with at least a coating of accumulation, and as much as an inch farther away from the coast. As precipitation mixes with and changes to rain, road temperatures in these areas may still be below freezing even as air temperatures slowly rise to the mid and upper 30s, and a light glaze of ice may be possible on untreated surfaces. So plan on slippery conditions this evening even as temperatures slowly rise.

Long Beach, NY - July 8th, 2013 - The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors (LBWW) committee has announced that the Inn at 943 West Beech Street in Long Beach, will hold their fifth annual fundraiser on Saturday, July 13 with proceeds providing a trip to Long Beach for wounded soldiers and their families.
The event will be held from 4PM to 7PM offering an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment for a $40 entrance fee. Win cash and bid at the live auction for fabulous prizes including sports memorabilia, a custom surfboard, exciting trips and more!
In cooperation with the City of Long Beach, LBWW will hold a 5K race for the soldiers on Sunday, July 21 at 8AM at Riverside Blvd. At 3PM the annual Welcome Parade for the soldiers will take place (from Ohio Avenue to New York Avenue along Beech Street.) Bring the entire family out to salute these heroes! Parade is followed by a BBQ at Long Beach Catholic Regional School. All are invited!
The annual visit is being organized by the LB Waterfront organization with officials at Walter Reed Medical National Military Medical Center who will make plans for recuperating soldiers to visit Long Beach from July 19 through 24, 2013. During their time here, the families will be treated to some deserved leisure time with beach events, surfing lessons, barbecues, a trip to New York City.
LBWW's goal is to bring comfort and relaxation to soldiers and their families when they visit Long Beach. We count on volunteers to help us in our mission, and invite all who are interested to join us. Residents are welcome to open their homes to families by becoming house hosts. We seek soldier liaisons who can assist the families while in town, and need volunteers to help serve food to our guests on the beach and at various events.
In addition to the summer trip, we have provided veterans with emergency medical services and evaluations; educational support; equipment purchases for recuperating veterans at Northport VA Hospital; and with the help of volunteers and donations, we have sent hundreds of holiday care packages to soldiers overseas each December. We are proud that over 95% of donations to LBWW’s go directly to support the men and women who have served our country.
