A 16-year-old boy was reportedly attacked by a shark while swimming off of Fire Island on Monday, July 3, authorities say.
 
The incident took place near near Kismet Beach at approximately 5:30 p.m. when the swimmer was said to have been bitten in the leg.
 
Responding lifeguards applied a tourniquet and carried out other medical treatment; the victim's current condition is not known as of press time.
