East Meadow, NY - June 7th, 2013 - The Lupus Alliance of LIQ, home of the Walk-Along for Lupus, Long Island's first and longest running lupus walk will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary Walk-Along for Lupus on October 20th!  The walk will be held in Eisenhower Park, Field #6, with registration beginning at 8:30am, and the walk beginning at 10am, rain or shine. The minimum registration donation is $20.00, for a $50.00 donation the walker also receives a T-Shirt, and for a donation of $500.00 or more the walker receives a Visa Gift Card.

The Walk-Along for Lupus is a fun filled day for the whole family that includes, breakfast, lunch, live music, give-a-ways from sponsors, and more. Picnic tables are set up for families to gather together and enjoy the day as well as mingle with others who like them, have lupus, or love someone who does.

The Lupus Alliance of LIQ was established in 1955, is a 501c3 non-profit based on Long Island, and is the only locally based agency that offers services to those living with lupus and their families in the Nassau, Suffolk and Queens areas. Unlike larger non-profits, the Alliance, does not receive large government or corporate grants, instead they have always relied heavily on the donations of individuals whose lives are touched by Lupus. Without the dedication of these people who collect donations year round and attend the Walk-Along for Lupus every year, the Alliance would not be able to provide the support services that are so desperately needed by families in our local area.

With the excitement of celebrating their 20th Anniversary, the Lupus Alliance is hoping to reach out to their biggest audience yet, and make the 20th year, their best year ever, hoping to raise $300,000 or more for the very first time.

JoAnn Quinn, Executive Director of the Lupus Alliance stated, "We are hoping to reach more schools and organizations throughout Long Island and Queens who would be interested in starting a team and helping us reach our goal this year. So many people need our help on Long Island every year and our walk is the main source of our funding. The more we raise this year for our Anniversary, the more programs we can offer to those who truly need our help, but we cannot do that without a little extra help from our friends, neighbors, business owners, and school groups in the area."

Beginning May 1st, walkers can sign up and register for free, and even customize their own personalized walk donation pages. Once a page is made, walkers can send out it through their Twitter, Facebook, Blog and more to ask friends and family to walk with them on their team, or donate to their page. To register online and begin collecting donations please visit www.lupusliqueens.org/walkalongforlupus.

Lupus can be a devastating disease, affecting the whole family, especially when insurance may not cover the cost of the medications needed to keep it under control. Every dollar raised at the Walk goes directly to helping someone who has lupus in the Long Island/Queens area, as well as helping support research into the cause and cure of lupus.
