Long Island, NY - May 27, 2015 - Buses will replace trains between Port Jefferson and Huntington over the weekend of Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31 as the Long Island Rail Road resumes the installation of new concrete ties along that stretch of track. As a result, service along the route will be reduced from hourly to every two hours.

The installation work, which got underway in March, will continue on non-holiday weekends through the summer and will also impact travel between Huntington and Hicksville where service will be reduced from half-hourly to hourly.

Customers boarding at New Hyde Park or Carle Place must change at Hicksville to continue east. They should expect up to 30 minutes of additional travel time. Westbound passengers going to Westbury or Merillon Ave must change trains at Hicksville too. Also, some eastbound trains are on adjusted schedules.

The project will require the eastern Port Jefferson Branch’s single track to be out of service on the weekends of May 30-31, June 13-14, 20-21, 27-28, July 11-12 and 18-19.
