On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office will host the Second Annual Wellness Conference at the Hyatt Regency Long Island in Hauppauge. The conference is targeted to discuss the unique stressors that affect men and women in law enforcement and public safety professionals. Expert speakers will cover topics such as mental health, resilience, trauma, nutrition and general wellness (schedule below). This year’s first main speaker is former MLB player, Dwight "Doc" Gooden, who will talk about overcoming adversity and personal growth. More than 350 local law enforcement officials, first responders and public safety professionals are expected to attend.
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office’s Wellness Unit, which began in late 2022, is one of the first full-time Wellness Units within a law enforcement agency on Long Island. The Unit aims to strengthen the health and wellness of all Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office staff and provide peer support during times of need. Since inception, they have assisted Officers more than 4,500 times, created a Trained Peer Support Team with more than 40 members and launched a Wellness Phone App that offers a "get help now" option that immediately connects a user to a variety of resources related to mental health and suicide.
