Island Park Man Crashes Stolen Truck Through Fence, Hits Car & Flees on Foot, Cops Say

First Squad Detectives report the arrest of an Island Park man for Grand Larceny that occurred on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at 8:50 pm in Roosevelt.
 
According to detectives, an unknown male entered a fenced property located at 531 Nassau Road. Once inside, the subject entered a 2001 International Harvester Landscape Truck and started the engine. The subject proceeded to drive the vehicle through the locked fence and exited southbound on Nassau Road.
 
A short time later, the same vehicle was involved in an auto accident in the confines of the Fourth (4th) Precinct in the vicinity of 17 Island Parkway North, Island Park. The same male fled the scene on foot. A canvass was conducted and Albert Garfield, 57, of 5 Sheridan Place was arrested without incident.
 
Defendant Garfield is charged with Grand Larceny 2nd degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, Criminal Trespass 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 2nd degree and Leaving the Scene of an Incident.  He was arraigned on Monday, May 15, 2023 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
Defendant Garfield was previously arrested on: February 5, 2021 and charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree, March 2, 2023 and charged with Robbery 3rd degree, March 25, 2023 and charged with DWAI by Drugs – Prior Conviction, April 30, 2023 and charged with Assault 3rd degree. In each instance he was released with no bail.
