Port Jefferson, NY, May 2013 - On Saturday, May 4, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Fortunato Breast Health Center’s Families Walk for Hope event.   The event was held to assist the center in fulfilling their mission to provide compassionate and individual care to women with breast cancer.  Event participants walked in support of a family member with breast cancer, or in memory of someone whose life was cut short by the disease.

“Having lost a loved one to breast cancer, I know it’s vital that we continue to create awareness on the high incidence of breast cancer here on Long Island,” said Legislator Anker.  “We all play an important part in reducing Long Island’s cancer rate, from living a healthy lifestyle, to supporting the volunteers in cancer awareness events like Mather Hospital’s Families Walk for Hope.”

The Fortunato Breast Health Center provides state-of-the-art breast healthcare. Trained healthcare professionals offer mammograms and physical examinations, expert follow-up care, education for patients, families and the community, and breast cancer support groups. In addition to health and support service information booths, The School of Rock, a local music school for students, performed at the event.
