Adelphi University Department of Dance Presents Spring Dance Adelphi

Garden City, NY - April 17, 2014 - Adelphi University Department of Dance is proud to present its annual program, Spring Dance Adelphi. This year’s Spring Dance Adelphi will be a mixed program and will take place from May 2-4 and May 9-11, 2014 in the Olmsted Theatre in the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC), located at 1 South Ave, Garden City NY. Thirty-eight students will perform in five pieces from five different choreographers, with musical styles ranging from traditional Japanese music to the music of Ray Charles.

Spring Dance Adelphi is directed by Frank Augustyn, chair of the Department of Dance. Choreographers include Assistant Professor Orion Duckstein, Adjunct Professor Leda Meredith, and guest choreographers Takehiro Ueyama and Maurice Brandon Curry.

Takehiro Ueyama’s piece Sakura Sakura was a prize winner at the 2005 International Modern Dance Choreographic Competition in Spain and will now be restaged for Spring Dance Adelphi. Mr. Ueyama is the founder of the TAKE Dance Company, which has often been praised for its distinct combination of athleticism and sensitivity.

Maurice Brandon Curry has served as a choreographer, director, and educator for institutions throughout the United States. He has worked on regional productions such as West Side Story and Oliver! as well as several off-Broadway productions. 

Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center is one of Long Island’s premier cultural arts venues for entertainment of all kinds.
