85 Year-Old Woman Loses Nearly $50,000 Via Computer Scam, Police Say

The victim spoke to an unknown male claiming to work for Microsoft who instructed her to go to her local bank branch and transfer $49,000.

According to Nassau County Police Detectives, a female victim, 85, while inside her North Hills residence using her computer, received a prompt to call a phone number. She called and spoke to an unknown male claiming to work for Microsoft. 
 
The male instructed her to go to her local bank branch and transfer $49,000 (U.S.) to another bank account that he had provided the information for. 
 
After the transfer was completed, the unknown male instructed the victim to send a copy of her driver’s license and the bank receipt of the transfer to a phone number that he provided.
 
This incident is under investigation.
