Weather Alert

LIGHT SNOW AND SPOTTY LIGHT FREEZING RAIN POSSIBLE THIS EVENING As temperatures slowly rise this evening, light snow should quickly change over to rain across Long Island, New York City and the suburbs just north and west, and across coastal and southeastern Connecticut, with at least a coating of accumulation, and as much as an inch farther away from the coast. As precipitation mixes with and changes to rain, road temperatures in these areas may still be below freezing even as air temperatures slowly rise to the mid and upper 30s, and a light glaze of ice may be possible on untreated surfaces. So plan on slippery conditions this evening even as temperatures slowly rise.

Poke bowls are a great way to fill up on a nutritious and delicious meal for the health conscious and those who just love fresh ingredients and lots of flavor. Described as a sushi in a salad bowl, most places allow you to build your own bowl or have some made to order menu items.

Maui Poke, which opened recently in Commack, is one of the newest restaurants to offer this Hawaiian delight. They offer create-your-own bowls with a kale, noodle, rice or quinoa base and two ($11.95) or three ($14.95) proteins of tuna, salmon, eel, tofu or chicken. You can also order one of their five signature bowls. They also serve a variety of bubble teas.

On Yelp, Nicole F, from Setauket said she was pleasantly surprised when she found Maui Poke.

“When you first walk in you're welcomed by a very well lit environment. The side wall is super cool and adds a fresh feel to the place,” she wrote. “The best part about our visit to this place was the service! Everyone was very kind, accommodating and knowledgeable with our orders... Give this place a try!

Marvin L, from Port Jefferson, called it awesome.

“It's located in a small shopping center in Commack and has a reasonably sized parking lot. I've been here twice now and it has become my new favorite pokebowl place,” he wrote.
