Southampton Man Arrested for Allegedly Keeping Dogs in "Inhumane" Conditions, Using Zip Ties as a Muzzle

On Friday, 1/26/23, at approximately 3:38 PM, police were called to a home in the Riverside area of Southampton Town to check the welfare of the dogs belonging to the resident. 
 
Upon arrival police found two mistreated/injured dogs living in inhumane conditions, one of which had a zip tie affixed to his mouth as a makeshift “muzzle”. 
 
The resident, Roosevelt Sykes, 54, of Riverside, was arrested at the scene and charged with Aggravated Cruelty to animals, a felony, and Failing to Provide Adequate Shelter, a violation.
 
Mr. Sykes was released on an appearance ticket to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court at a later date.
 
Both dogs were taken from the scene to an area shelter for medical treatment.
