Mineola Man Arrested for “Elder Scam” of Seaford Woman, NCPD Says

The Seventh Squad reports the arrest of a Mineola man for an “Elder Scam” incident that occurred on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 12:20 PM in Seaford.
 
According to Detectives, a 73-year-old female victim was contacted by an unknown male who was claiming to be her grandson, he stated that he was in jail and that she needed to contact his lawyer. 
 
The victim received a second call from an unknown male stating that he was her grandsons’ lawyer and he needed $8,000 to post his bail. A third call was received from another unknown male stating that he was the bail bondsman and he was in the area of her home to collect the bail money. 
 
The victim, suspecting this might be a scam, contacted police prior to the arrival of the defendant. The defendant, Joshua Estrella Gomez, 28, of 213 Willis Avenue, took an envelope from the victim and he was immediately placed under arrest without further incident.
 
Defendant Joshua Estrella Gomez is charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree. He was released on an Appearance Ticket and is due to appear at First District Court on Thursday, February 3, 2022.
