Southampton Police Arrest Man Who Hid Illegal Firearm on Local Resident's Property; Suspect Catches Two Felonies

Romel E. Richards, age 21, was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd.

On October 9, 2023 Southampton Town Police Department received a report of a found gun at a residence. The complainant advised he had found the gun on his property and knew who it belonged to.
 
Southampton Town Police Detectives took possession of the gun and conducted an investigation. On January 20, 2024 with the assistance of the Southampton Town Police CRU Unit, the owner of the gun, Romel E. Richards, age 21, was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (both charges are felonies). He was processed at Southampton Town Police Headquarters and held overnight for morning arraignment. 
 
Richards was remanded to Suffolk County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
