In 1963 the Islip Town Historian, George L. Weeks, Jr. formed the Sagtikos Manor Historical Society, a small group interested in preserving and spreading knowledge of the rich history of a growing suburban area as well as Suffolk County as a whole. Suffolk County acquired the Manor in 2002 to ensure its preservation. As a result of fundraising, grants, and generous donations the county has been able to afford many restorations in the house and on the property is inhabits. The Society also maintains the George L. Weeks, Jr. Library, which contains reference material pertaining to the history of Islip and the surrounding South Shore area. Located in West Islip, the collection is available to individuals by appointment only.
