CARE for Sandy

Serving LI, NJ, and All Those Affected by Sandy

CARE stands for Cherished Albums Restoration Effort. Our mission is simple: to offer FREE digital restoration services for individuals and families whose photos have been damaged by October 2012's devastating hurricane.

Why? Because whereas cars, homes and jobs are replaceable, images of mom & dad’s honeymoon, baby’s first steps and great great grandpa’s sole surviving portrait are priceless. Photos contain deep-rooted significance. Photos preserve stories! Photos foster soul and spirit.

More than 450 generous, skilled restorers from 22 countries have offered to assist since CARE for Sandy's 11/10/12 inception. Thousands of photographs will be receiving FREE support. Visit our website to volunteer or connect Sandy victims you might know with retouching experts from around the globe.

A lovely charity that will restore your photos if they were damaged during Sandy. I know a lot of people who kept their photo albums in their basements, like we did, and when the lower levels flooded, the photos seemed ruined. It's amazing what these people are able to restore. Thank you for doing this! You saved so many special memories for us.

Wow!! I can't believe there are volunteers who are nice enough to offer a service like this. When Hurricane Sandy struck, the basement of our house was flooded. The basement was where we stored most of our photographs, heirlooms, and so on (not the attic, like we should've I guess). We didn't lose anything, but there was a substantial amount of water damage on our photographs. We were very sad, because while we could still see them, the colours were dimmer and there was some distortion to their clarity, and they were our family photos (some of them spanning back a couple generations). These people at CARE actually restored our photos and gave us new copies, at no charge! I don't know why, whether it's out of the kindness of their hearts or a desire to preserve local history, but I think it's awesome. Some of our photos are actually in better condition than they were before the hurricane hit! Thank you SO much. We are forever grateful to you!
