Never knew this existed in Bay Shore and I've been living here for 27 years. I work with at-risk students and this will be a great resource going forward.

I think a lot of people aren't aware that the SCCADV exists, which is why I feel it's important to leave a review, even though what happened to me is hard to talk about. My husband developed a drinking problem over the years, and it go to the point where he lost all self-control, especially as our marriage entered into a downward spiral (try a free-fall plunge). He turned violent on me and my son one night, and I do mean violent. I grabbed my boy and we fled the house. We had no idea where to go. Our family wouldn't give us shelter, and our friends didn't seem to believe us--perhaps because they were his friends too. In desperation I picked up a yellow pages, and I found out that the SCCADV operates a shelter, which is where we stayed for a month while we figured out where to move and what to do next. I don't know where we would be without them. Their programs have been extremely helpful, and their counselors have helped us to see our way through hard life choices.
