Moriches, New York - The William Floyd High School Student Government provides valuable experiences for its members. As members, the students plan events and activities, and perform community service. They gain valuable experience as they build self-confidence, responsibility, and become respected by their peers as leaders in the school community.
Chelsey Sidaras, President of the High School Student Government recently organized a homework assist project. She said, "Members of the Student Government wanted to increase communication between the high school students and the elementary school students across the William Floyd School District by volunteering their services in a variety of learning activity areas." Activities such as reading and tutoring were suggested.
Student Government members recently visited second and third grade students at the Moriches Elementary School. It's a win-win situation. The high school students serve as a role model for the elementary students, and the youngsters enjoy receiving special attention. Additionally, the high school students get the opportunity to hone their communications skills, patience, and empathy skills. Principal Eileen Filippone said, "It was a positive experience for everyone and we look forward to more high school student government visitations."
