What: Suffolk County Treasurer Angie Carpenter will join Alzheimer Association's Long Island Chapter and Sunrise Senior Living, who is hosting a special bowling event to help AALI reach its goal for the Long Island 2011 Walk to End Alzheimer's. The employees at Sunrise Senior Living are helping those afflicted with Alzheimer's disease and other memory-related impairments attain what they call "pleasant days."
There are 5.4 million people in the U.S. who are afflicted with Alzheimer's. Of that number, 60,000 live here on Long Island. In the coming years, the Association expects to see a drastic increase in these numbers if a cure is not found. Currently, one in eight people over the age of 65 have Alzheimer's disease.

Directions: From the East: LIE to Exit 49N (Route 110) toward Huntington. Merge onto service road. Take Pinelawn Road (County Road 3) towards Route 110. Cross over Broadhollow Road (Rte. 110) and Pinelawn Road becomes Walt Whitman Road. Go 0.4 mile, then make a left onto Old Walt Whitman Road. Bowling alley will be on the left.
