Beat Summer's Heat Party Boat Style

Now that summer is officially here with the passing of July Fourth, kids are off from school and what better way to pass the time than go fishing. One of the best ways I know is to jump aboard any of the party boats on Long Island and sail for half or full day action. Right now what most boats are sailing for is fluke. Whether they fish in the bays or in the ocean fluke is king right now, but there are others that would disagree.

The lineup at Captree State Park offers a full slate of boats to cover all the fishing you can possibly do plus fishing piers. Half-day party boats sailing from Captree at 7 a.m. or 8 a.m. and again at noon or 1 p.m.: Susan Ann 631-475-3449, Island Princess 631-587-6024 or www.islandprincessfishing.com and the Jib VI 631-587-1194.

Full day or three quarter day boats include the Capt. Rod (full) 631-587-7316 and the Captree Princess www.captreeprincess.com (3/4 day) 631-859-8799. Most, if not all of these Captree boats sail evening trips at 5, 6, and 7 p.m. for bay blues and weakfish or stripers. The Capt. Rod sails at 4 p.m., while the Captree Princess sail again at 3 p.m. for fluke.

POINT LOOKOUT. Here you can fish full day ocean bottom fishing for porgies, sea bass, ling & fluke on the legendary Capt. Al (516-623-2248) at 7 a.m. daily. There is half day fluke fishing on the Miss Point Lookout III (516-546-5568) or full days on Thursdays at 8 a.m. with the Lady J V (516-825-5727) who also charters to private groups as her main stay of business and has a web site at www.ladyjv.com.

FREEPORT. The king of the port is the Capt. Lou Fleet (516-766-5716) with the Capt. Lou VII half-day boat sailing at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. or the Capt. Lou VI sailing half days at 7:30 a.m. & 12:30 p.m., but the Lou VI also runs full day Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 a.m. and night bass trips Wednesday & Thursday at 5 p.m.

HUNTINGTON. The only real ball game in town here is the Capt. James Joseph (631-424-1253) sailing full day fluke trips at 7 a.m. and again at 4:30 p.m. for an afternoon four hour trip. They may switch to bluefish at some point this summer but right now the fluking here is excellent.

MONTAUK. We couldn't talk about party boat fishing without going to Montauk, home port of the Viking Fleet (631-669-5700). The Viking Fleet has half day fluke, three-quarter day striped bass trips, night striper fishing, Saturday night bluefishing and they have summer cod trips along with extended wreck trips for bottom fishing or overnight tuna trips. You can also reach them on the web at www.vikingfleet.com. The Flying Cloud also sails half day trips for fluke and you can reach them at 631-668-2026 or www.montaukflyingcloud.com.
ON THE AIR. Remember you can pick up the Weekend's Fishing Forecast on my 7:30 p.m. Thursday night show on WGBB 1240AM or live on my website at www.thefishingline.com
