Nassau County Police investigate a grand larceny case in Flower Hill where a victim fell victim to an online scam, losing approximately $16,900.

The Sixth Squad of the Nassau County Police Department is currently investigating a case of grand larceny that took place on Tuesday, May 09, 2023, at 7:30 pm in Flower Hill. A 44-year-old male victim fell victim to an online scam while attempting to make a purchase.
 
According to detectives, the victim provided personal information to the website but decided to cancel the purchase due to feeling uncomfortable. The following day, the victim received a phone call from an unknown male claiming to be a Bank of America Fraud Specialist. The caller informed the victim that his bank account had been compromised.
 
Under the pretense of resolving the issue, the scammer sent a new card to the victim by mail and instructed him to transfer money from his account to an unknown account set up by the fraudster. This fraudulent activity occurred between May 11, 2023, and May 16, 2023, during which the victim transferred approximately $16,900.00 in US currency.
 
Realizing he had been scammed, the victim promptly contacted the Nassau County Police to report the incident. The investigation into this case is ongoing, and the authorities are urging the community to remain vigilant. It is crucial for residents to educate and remind their vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors about the existence of potential scams and frauds.
