The 'sweet swagger of success" is alive and well in Dallas, and a visit to the Dallas-Fort Worth "Metroplex" will leave you impressed on a lot of levels.

Culture? Oh, yes, they've got plenty in Texas, and in spades! The Dallas Museum of Art is one of the finest in the country, while the Nasher Museum of Sculpture is one of only a few in the world devoted solely to the exhibition of modern sculpture. And the Dallas Arboretum has 11 different gardens, for a tranquil respite from the fast-paced city.

Dallas has much to offer those interested in history as well. The Sixth Floor Museum, memorializing President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in Dallas in 1963, should be on every visitor's itinerary. Other historic sites include the John Bryan Cabin, built in 1841 by the city's founder, and the Heritage Farmstead, a restored 1895 Victorian house and farm. A more contemporary attraction, but still historic in its own way, is South Fork Ranch, where the epic TV series "Dallas" was filmed.

For excitement, you can visit Lone Star Park, a beautiful horse racing venue, where the 2004 Breeders' Cup was held, or go to Gilly's for some country/western boot-stomping.

Two activities that might surprise are the "Texas Wine Trail," a group of wineries offering tastings in the town of Grapevine (of course!), and the gondola rides offered at the Omni Mandalay Hotel in Las Colinas. A striking place to stay, convenient to the airport, is the Gaylord Texan Resort, with its brassy "Big D" style.
