Brentwood Man Convicted of Sex Crimes against Two Young Girls

After six hours of deliberations a Suffolk County jury has convicted a 24 year old Brentwood man of committing sex crimes against two young girls.

Brentwood, NY - December 1, 2016 - After six hours of deliberations a Suffolk County jury has convicted a 24 year old Brentwood man of committing sex crimes against two young girls, District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

For crimes committed against the first victim, Augustine Ortiz of Brentwood was found guilty of one count of rape in the first degree, one count of sexual abuse in the first degree, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.  According to the indictment, the rape occurred when the victim was 9 years old in May 2015.
 
For the second victim, who was 7 years old in 2015, the jury convicted Ortiz of one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
 
District Attorney Spota said following the verdict, Ortiz was certified as a sex offender and remanded without bail to the county jail for sentencing on January 9, 2017 when he will face up to 25 years in state prison.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation.  A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
