Suffolk Sheriff’s Office Holds Graduation Ceremony for 52 New Correction Officers

On Thursday, December 15, 2022 the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office held a graduation ceremony for 52 new Correction Officers at the Van Nostrand Theatre on the campus of Suffolk County Community College.  This is the third Correction Officer Class of the year, and marks 140 Correction Officer graduates in 2022 – the most the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office has ever graduated in one year. 
 
“After weeks of rigorous training, I am confident we are adding some of the best and brightest law enforcement professionals in New York to our ranks. I am proud to welcome these 52 new Correction Officers to our Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office team and wish them the best of luck in their career with us,” said Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr.  
 
The Correction Officers spent the last 13 weeks in the academy receiving instruction in security and supervision, defensive tactics, legal issues, implicit bias training, essential services, chemical weapons and firearms, role play, and more. These officers join a force consisting of 837 Correction Officers working in the Suffolk County Correctional Facility. 
 
During the ceremony, several awards were presented to the members of the graduating classes including Sheriff Toulon’s Award for Academic Excellence. 
 
Notable graduates included: 
  • Former intern of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office   
  • Three graduates with dual citizenships (Ecuador, Poland, Liberia) 
  • 40 graduates with corrections and law enforcement family members
