Recently, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) joined Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar, New York State and Suffolk County legislators, as well as other local officials and residents at a press conference ahead of the demolition of two buildings in downtown Riverhead, representing a significant milestone to getting Riverhead’s Downtown Revitalization project underway.

“This morning was an amazing turnout of proud Riverhead residents who are seeing the fruit of vision, hard work and unity. This is much needed unity amongst all different levels of government, as well as people outside of government, all coming together for a great cause,” said Congressman Zeldin. “Downtown Riverhead’s revitalization is filled with so much promise and will have hugely positive economic effects for the town, growing small businesses, creating jobs, and attracting people from far and wide.”

Congressman Zeldin helped facilitate the joint efforts of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers and the Town of Riverhead to develop a Floodplain Management Study for the revitalization project. Congressman Zeldin has also expressed support to the U.S. Department of Transportation for Riverhead’s RAISE grant application to help fund the creation of Riverhead Town Square. The proposed Town Square will consist of a public gathering space, pedestrian connectivity and open vistas from Main Street to the riverfront, and will be a driving force for further revitalization in downtown Riverhead.
