Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport), in conjunction with the Nassau County Department of Assessment, announces the 2022 series of Property Tax Exemption Workshops for Fifth Legislative District residents.

During the workshops, Department of Assessment staff will assist residents with filing for veteran, senior citizen, Cold War veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance worker, limited-income disability and/or home improvement exemptions. Enhanced STAR applications will also be processed for homeowners already enrolled in the STAR program prior to Jan. 2, 2015.

All workshops are from 1 - 2:30 p.m. Participants should bring copies of their 2021 federal and state income tax returns and other required documentation with them to workshops; for a complete list, visit https://www.nassaucountyny.gov/3575/Exemption-Forms or call the Nassau County Department of Assessment at 516-571-1500.

This workshop comes after Legislator Mulé and the Minority Caucus spearheaded the passage of an increase the maximum income eligibility cap for individuals applying to receive the Senior Citizens and Persons with Limited Incomes and Disabilities tax exemptions to $58,400 from its former threshold of $37,400 – an outcome that followed months of sustained advocacy by the Minority Caucus to raise the cap.
