Oyster Bay Town's inaugural Snapper Derby is set to coincide with its Bluefish Tournament on Sunday, October 1st, within the picturesque confines of Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay.

"This delightful family affair welcomes kids aged 14 and below, with delightful prizes and accolades for victors, and delightful giveaways for all participants," said Town Joseph Supervisor Saladino. "This occasion offers an excellent chance to introduce youngsters to the joys of recreational fishing."

The Snapper Derby is scheduled for 9am - 2pm on Sunday, October 1st, coinciding with the Town's Bluefish Tournament, right by the fishing pier at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park. Residents are invited to register at a cost of $10, while non-residents can secure their spot for $15. Participants are encouraged to bring their own gear, such as fishing rods and bait, as supplies are limited. Youngsters will be grouped into two categories: ages 7 and under, and 8-14. Victors will be determined by the number of snappers caught, with an emphasis on catch-and-release practices. Prizes and awards will be distributed for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each age group.

"We are thrilled to introduce this engaging event to Theodore Roosevelt Park and welcome all young enthusiasts to enroll," Councilwoman Laura Maier said. "Complimentary refreshments, t-shirts, and raffle opportunities await all participants, in addition to coveted awards and prizes for top achievers."

For comprehensive registration details, residents can reach out to the Town's Recreation Office at (516) 797-7945. Registration is currently accessible via the Town's website at www.oysterbaytown.com/portal.
