FREEPORT, NY — May 25th, 2013 — After months of rebuilding following the devastation of last year’s superstorm Sandy, Freeport’s world-famous Nautical Mile is open for business and the village will celebrate this accomplishment by holding its annual Nautical Festival on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. according to Mayor Robert T. Kennedy. The Mayor estimates that more than 90-percent of the businesses in the village’s waterfront area are now open and ready for the upcoming summer tourist season.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Freeport coming together as a community and our resolve to rebuild than a family-oriented festival on our Nautical Mile,” said Mayor Kennedy. “We are looking forward to showcasing our accomplishments on June 1st and we invite everyone to come to Freeport and join in the celebration.”

Mayor Kennedy and the Board of Trustees, along with other elected officials, representatives from the Freeport Chamber of Commerce, community leaders and others, will be on hand for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, June 1 at 10 a.m. at Woodcleft Avenue and Front Street.

Freeport’s Nautical Mile has established itself as Long Island’s premier waterfront destination, attracting tens of thousands of visitors every year from all over the world. The Nautical Festival will showcase the very best that Freeport has to offer including fine dining establishments, live entertainment, fresh seafood markets, recreational fishing fleets, family entertainment venues and much more. There will also be rides for the children and displays of Freeport’s nautical heritage. Woodcleft Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 1.
