Hampton Theatre Company Auditions For “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”

All who audition will be asked to sing “Comedy Tonight” and should be prepared to read from sides.

The Hampton Theatre Company will hold AUDITIONS by appointment for all roles in the musical “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Directed by Rosemary Cline, with music direction by Dee Laveglia, the production opens May 23 and runs through June 9. Rehearsals begin on April 1. 

Auditions for union and non-union performers will be by appointment from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, January 21-23, at the Quogue Community Hall: 125 Jessup Avenue, Quogue, NY 11959.

All who audition will be asked to sing “Comedy Tonight” and should be prepared to read from sides. 

The characters and vocal ranges are: 

  • Phila (ingenue): soprano
  • Hero (son of Domina & Senex): tenor
  • Pseudolus (slave to Hero): baritone
  • Hysterium (slave to Domina & Senex): baritone
  • Senex (1 of 3 owners of main houses): baritone
  • Domina (wife to Senex ): mezzo-soprano
  • Marcus Lycus (owner of 1 of the houses—flesh purveyor): baritone
  • Miles Gloriosus (warrior): bass
  • 9-14 Ensemble: soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass
