When I first had my son, none of my friends had kids. I didn't know where the playgrounds were or which ones were good for toddlers versus older kids. Well, times have changed and we've become experts around here! :-) I know how tough it can be and we have a section on

Long Island Baby Stuff

dedicated to playground reviews by Moms, Dads & Kids, all over Long Island.

Here are a few of my son's favorites.

Robert Moses Park

(after 4pm weekdays, 7pm weekends it's free) Great playground at field 5. Great place to go in the early evening when it's hot out. The air coming off the Ocean makes it really nice for parents while their kids play on the playground. This is a great playground for around 12 mos and up. It's usually pretty busy which makes it fun for the kids to have other kids to chase and play with.

Hoyt Farm in Smithtown

is great -- only thing is that non-Smithtown residents have to pay a fee (that's Town of Smithtown, not just Smithtown itself). Otherwise, it's free. There are two separate play areas, one better for younger kids, the other mostly for older kids. Plus, a visit to the animals is a must while you're there. Hoyt Farm is on New Highway in Smithtown, just east/south of the Northern State Parkway entrance.

Wantagh

Wantagh Park (Wantagh Pkwy south to Merrick Road west to first light, make left & take to the end) No boredom for baby here! This park has a very large play area with lots of stuff for baby to play on. There's a great jogging course and plenty of room for a picnic too.
