Record Number of Plungers Expected to be “Freezin’ for a Reason” at the Town of Brookhaven Polar Plunge To Benefit Special Olympics New York

Farmingville, NY - September 23, 2015 - Special Olympics New York and the Town of Brookhaven invite you to join the hundreds of others who will be “Freezin’ for a Reason” on Saturday, November 21, 2015 for the 6th Annual Town of Brookhaven Polar Plunge at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai. Brave souls with warm hearts will run, jump, and dive into the chilly waters of the Long Island Sound to raise funds for the athletes of Special Olympics New York. All funds support Special Olympics New York’s programs and promote awareness of people living with intellectual disabilities in New York. 

It’s easy to get involved! Simply log on to our website. From there you will be able to form a team, invite your family and friends to join your team, create your own Personal Plunge Page and send it out to your contacts – all with a few clicks of the mouse! Registration starts at 9:00am at Cedar Beach; Plunge at Noon.

This year’s Town of Brookhaven Polar Plunge Sponsors include: JVC Broadcasting, Cedar Beach Bar & Grille, H2M architects + engineers, PETRO, Revco Lighting + Electrical Supply, Suffolk County Corrections Officer’s Association, National Business Capital, Nestle Nesquik & Gutter Helmet along with several other local businesses.

This year’s Town of Brookhaven Polar Plunge participants include: Special Olympics athletes, Town of Brookhaven – Councilwoman Jane Bonner, Councilman Kevin LaValle and employees, MyCountry 96.1 DJ’s Bill Powers & Jay Letterman, Party 105.3FM DJ Alfredo, in addition to local college students, high schools, businesses and members of the community.

This Polar Plunge will help to provide year-round sports training and competition in over 22 Olympic-style sports for more than 65,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities living in New York, giving them continuing opportunities at no cost to them or their families.
