East Meadow Man Arrested for Robbing Levittown Bank at Gunpoint, Officials Report

Levittown, NY - May 10, 2018 - The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of an East Meadow man for Robbery that occurred on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 11:03 am in Levittown.
 
According to Robbery Squad detectives, defendant Benjamin Maynard, 32, entered the Bethpage Federal Credit Union located inside the King Kullen Supermarket Store at 3284 Hempstead Turnpike. He presented a note to a 23 year male teller demanding cash while pointing a black handgun. The victim complied, and the defendant fled on foot in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of US currency. There were no injuries reported. There were 3 employees and one customer in the bank during the incident.
 
A subsequent investigation led detectives to Benjamin Maynard’s residence on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 and placed him into police custody with the assistance of Bureau of Special Operations Officers. The defendant was also found to be in possession of 16 glassine bags of a substance believed to be Heroin. Further investigation revealed that the defendant was also responsible for a Robbery that occurred on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Roslyn Savings Bank located inside the Stop and Shop Store located at 4055 Merrick Road, Seaford.
 
Benjamin Maynard is charged with two counts Robbery 1st Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. He will be arraigned on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at First District Court in Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
