Late Start but Warm Weather Finally Here!

Written by Wendy L  |  09. April 2013

The long wait for warm weather to touch on Long Island is officially over! Today, spring weather officially arrived. In fact, in some parts it may even feel more like summer.

Temperatures are expected to reach the 80-degree mark in some areas. In Islip, it hit 79 degrees shortly before 1 p.m. That broke the record temperature of 73 degrees set back in 1991, according to the National Weather Service.

While the warm weather is welcomed, there is an increased chance of wildfires to spread on Long Island this afternoon. Wind gusts are expected to reach between 20 and 25 mph and combined with the low relative humidity it increases the threat, according to the LongIsland.com Weather Center.

The warm blast of air over the next two days is a relief, but don’t get too use to it. By Wednesday evening, there’s the chance of wet weather and cool air to head back, bringing in highs of only the 50s through the weekend.

Spring weather was delayed, but it’s officially starting to make some progress. Allergy season is also in full bloom, so you can go ahead and start all the spring cleaning projects, gardening projects and plans for great outdoor adventures enjoying Mother Nature.
