PSEG Long Island Earns “Emergency Assistance Award” for Efforts to Restore Service after Hurricane Irma
Uniondale, NY - January 11, 2017 - The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) today presented PSEG Long Island with the association’s “Emergency Assistance Award” for its outstanding work assisting customers impacted by Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
The award is presented to EEI member companies to recognize an outstanding response in assisting other electric companies in power restoration efforts after service has been disrupted by severe weather conditions or other natural events. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process, and the awards were presented during EEI’s Winter Board and CEO Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona.
PSEG Long Island provided more than 460 company employees and contractors to help Florida Power & Light, Tampa Electric Company and Duke Energy (Florida) restore electric service to millions who lost power during Hurricane Irma.
“At PSEG Long Island, we are strongly committed to community, service and helping others in need,” said Dan Eichhorn, president and COO of PSEG Long Island. “We prepare year-round for storms and we were fortunate to be in a position to send personnel to assist in the restoration of power in Florida. Responding to crises is what we do best and we were happy to return the favor, as Long Islanders received significant mutual assistance support following Superstorm Sandy.”
