81 Year-Old Pedestrian Killed by Motorist in Garden City, Authorities Report

Garden City, NY - July 3, 2017 - The Homicide Squad is investigating a Serious Auto Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred in Garden City on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 8:30 am.
 
According to detectives, The Garden City Police responded for a call involving a pedestrian being struck by an auto. A 52 year old male driver driving a 2015 Toyota was making a right turn from Kellum place on to Old Country Road and struck the pedestrian, Richard H. Backlor, 81, of Merrick. Mr. Bakalor was crossing old country road from south to north. 
 
The pedestrian who suffered severe head trauma was transported in a Nassau County Police Ambulance to Winthrop University Hospital and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 9:03 am.  
 
No other injuries are reported. There is no apparent criminality at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
