After a day marked by extreme winds and heavy rains, Long Islanders can look forward to a serious drop in temperature in the late evening, with a possible chance of light snow - something we haven't seen since the end of March. In response to this unusual severe drop in temperature, the National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for Nassau and Suffolk Counties, as well as much of the New York metro area. The warning will go into effect at 2 AM on Wednesday morning, and is scheduled to stay in effect until 10 AM.

Rain showers are predicted up until 1 AM Wednesday morning, with the forecast shifting to snow showers between 1 and 2 AM, with some possibility of snow after 2 AM, although little to no accumulation is expected. The NWS warns that sensitive plants and vegetation may be damaged or killed due to the drop in temperature - potted plants may be protected by being covered, or brought indoors.

Currently, there is a Hazardous Weather Outlook in effect due to the high winds and serious wind gusts. There is a possibility that thunderstorms may develop this afternoon as the cold front approaches - be sure to check back for updates on the latest weather conditions. Gusts of up to 50-55 MPH are possible - be sure to secure lawn furniture and loose items in the yard.
