Legend has it that 20 years ago, when the Pub was called Gert's, a visionary though penniless leprechaun eased in and, negotiating for a free scoop of nectar, swapped the news that very shortly the place would change hands. It would be known as B.K. Sweeney's Pub and become famous as the pioneer property of Michael E. Sweeney and William Kavan. The little guy was right, though they had to toss him moments after his already suspect purchasing power was found to be nil.
Jane Bodo, The Pub's manager, describes this welcoming, comfortable, casual and popular neighborhood spot. "It's the kind of pub that people always look for. Once they find it, they're customers for life!" The handsome bar is a 40-footer, always well-elbowed and sprouting 15 different beer taps. For sports fans, soap fans and news buffs there are 26 satellite TV sets, so whether you're in one of the cozy relaxing booths or at a table in the 50-seat Dining Room or the bar, you'll miss nothing.
